Step 1.

Take a square sheet, place it flat on the table, with the bottom edge horizontal.

additional information

  • if it is two-colored, place the colored table side.
  • The corners of the square are: top left, top right, bottom right, and bottom left.

Step 2.

Make a valley fold, vertical, by bringing the right edge over to the left edge.

Crease well and then unfold.

Step 3.

Make a valley fold, vertical, by bringing the right edge to the vertical valley fold made in the previous step.

Crease well and leave folded.

Step 4.

Make a valley fold, vertical, by bringing the left edge to the vertical valley fold made in step 2.

Crease well and leave folded.

Step 5.

Rotate the model a quarter turn.

additional information

  • It is a rectangle in a horizontal position with a top flap and a bottom flap at the front.

Step 6.

Unfold the front bottom flap and the front top flap.

additional information

  • The fold has returned to a single-thickness square, with the bottom edge horizontal.
  • It has three horizontal valley folds.

Step 7.

Make a mark at the middle of the horizontal axis.

additional information

  • You must not create a Lelong valley fold along the vertical axis of symmetry.
  • The three horizontal valley folds define four single-thickness rectangular flaps in a horizontal position.
  • Let’s name these four flaps from top to bottom: flap 1, flap 2, flap 3, and flap 4.
  • Flap 4 is the one closest to you.

Step 8.

Form a vertical valley fold, only on panels 2 and 3, by bringing the left edge of the sheet to the vertical axis of symmetry.

Crease well and leave it folded.

additional information

  • Here, the vertical axis of symmetry is not marked, only the mark in the middle of the horizontal axis of symmetry is identified.
  • Therefore, form a valley fold by bringing the left end of the horizontal axis to the mark made in step 7.
  • You must also ensure that the top and bottom edges are properly aligned with the part of the fold that remains in contact with the table.

Step 9.

Form a vertical valley fold, only on panels 2 and 3, by bringing the right edge of the sheet to the vertical axis of symmetry.

Crease well and leave it folded.

additional information

  • Here, the vertical axis of symmetry is not marked, only the mark in the middle of the horizontal axis of symmetry is noted.
  • You should therefore make a valley fold by bringing the right end of the horizontal axis to the mark made in step 7.
  • You should also ensure that the top and bottom edges are properly aligned with the part of the fold that remains in contact with the table.

Step 10.

Unfold the left front and right front flaps of the fold.

additional information

  • The fold has returned to a simple single-layer square, with the bottom edge horizontal.
  • It has three horizontal valley folds running from the left edge to the right edge.
  • It also has two vertical valley folds on flaps 2 and 3, one at the left quarter and the other at the right quarter.

Step 11.

Bring the bottom edge up to the top edge using a valley fold along the horizontal axis of symmetry.

additional information

  • The fold is a double-thick rectangle with the bottom horizontal edge serving as a hinge edge.

Step 12.

Bring the bottom hinge edge up along the top horizontal edge.

Make a strong crease and leave it folded.

additional information

  • The fold is a quadruple-thick rectangle which has:
  • A front flap of double thickness,
  • A middle flap of single thickness,
  • A back flap of single thickness.

Step 13.

Form (through all thicknesses) an oblique valley fold, bringing the left edge (width of the rectangle) up to the top edge.

Make a strong crease, then unfold.

Step 14.

Form (through all the layers) an oblique valley fold, bringing the right edge (width of the rectangle) along the top edge.

Well crease the fold then unfold.

Step 15.

Unfold the entire sheet.

additional information

  • On flap 1, the oblique fold starting from the top left corner is a valley fold.
  • On flap 1, the oblique fold starting from the top right corner is a valley fold.

Step 16.

On the left and right sides of the sheet, the small diagonals of flaps 2, 3, and 4 must be mountain folds.

additional information

  • We will simply reverse certain folds, the sheet is still a single-layer square.

Step 17.

On flaps 2 and 3, well crease the left vertical fold and the right vertical fold as valley folds.

additional information

  • The sheet is still a single-layer square.

Step 18.

Bring the middle of the left edge and the middle of the right edge toward the center of the fold.

additional information

  • The model now has a hexagonal shape.
  • The upper half is a trapezoid-shaped pocket whose horizontal opening corresponds to the larger base.
  • The lower half is also a trapezoid but consists of two triangular pockets.
  • There is a horizontal slit at the left and right points of the hexagon.

Step 19.

Open the upper trapezoid-shaped pocket and fold the lower part of the model inside it.

additional information

  • The result takes the shape of a boat whose inside and outside are not the same color.

Step 20.

Take out the inner part of the boat to return to the hexagonal shape.

Step 21.

Turn the model over from top to bottom.

Step 22.

Open the upper trapezoid-shaped pocket and tilt the lower part of the fold inside it.

additional information

  • The result takes the shape of a boat whose inner and outer hull colors are reversed compared to those obtained in step 19.
