Step 1.

Take a square sheet, lay it flat on the table in a diamond position.

additional information

  • If it is two-colored, place the colored table side.
  • The corners of the square are: top, right, bottom, and left.

Step 2.

Make a valley fold, vertical, by bringing the right corner to the left corner.

Crease well and then unfold.

Step 3.

Make a valley fold, horizontal, by bringing the bottom corner to the top corner.

Crease well and then unfold.

additional information

  • The intersection of the diagonals corresponds to the center of the model.

Step 4.

Make four valley folds to bring the four corners of the sheet to the center of the model.

Crease these folds well, and leave folded.

additional information

  • The fold is a double-layer square with the bottom edge horizontal.

Step 5.

Rotate the model to place it in a diamond position.

additional information

  • The four triangular flaps are still facing upward.

Step 6.

One or two centimeters below the top point, make a horizontal valley fold, bringing the top point down to the vertical axis of symmetry.

Crease well and leave folded.

Step 7.

Make an oblique valley fold, bringing the right vertical edge of the lower left front flap down from right to left along the bottom edge of the fold.

Crease well and leave folded.

Step 8.

Form a valley fold obliquely, by bringing from left to right downwards, the left vertical edge of the lower right front flap, along the lower right edge of the fold.

Crease well and let fold.

additional information

  • The left and right parts of the fold are symmetrical.

Step 9.

Turn the model over from right to left.

Step 10.

Flip the small upper flap currently on the table side, to the ceiling side to have a reference point.

Step 11.

Form a horizontal valley fold, by bringing from bottom to top, the lower point just below the free tip of the small upper triangle.

Crease well and let fold.

additional information

  • The free tip of the small upper flap is oriented at 6 o'clock while the free tip of the large lower front flap is oriented at 12 o'clock.
  • These two tips do not touch; there is a small distance between them.

Step 12.

Flip the small upper flap back to the table side.

additional information

  • The top edge of the fold is small and horizontal.

Step 13.

One or two centimeters below the free tip of the large front flap, make a horizontal valley fold, bringing the free tip down onto the vertical axis of symmetry.

Crease well and leave it folded.

Step 14.

Turn the model over from right to left.

additional information

  • The small upper triangular flap is on the ceiling side.

Step 15.

On the upper left oblique edge, mark a point about 1 cm from the top edge, then form at the marked point a vertical valley fold by aligning the right part of the bottom edge with the bottom edge of the fold.

Crease well and leave it folded.

additional information

  • The bottom left corner of this front flap is multi-layered and forms a right angle (90°).
  • It forms a triangular pocket whose opening corresponds to the hypotenuse.

Step 16.

Mark a point about 1 cm to the right of the bottom left corner of the fold, and form at the marked point a vertical valley fold by bringing the right part of the front flap outside the fold from right to left.

additional information

  • The left part of the fold consists of three accordion-style flaps.

Step 17.

On the upper right oblique edge, mark a point about 1 cm from the top edge, then form at the marked point a vertical valley fold by aligning the right part of the bottom edge with the bottom edge of the fold.

Crease well and leave it folded.

additional information

  • The bottom right corner of this front flap is multi-layered and forms a right angle (90°).
  • It forms a triangular pocket whose opening corresponds to the hypotenuse.

Step 18.

Mark a point about 1 cm to the left of the bottom right corner of the fold, and form at the marked point a vertical valley fold by bringing the left part of the front flap outward from left to right.

additional information

  • The right part of the fold consists of three accordion-style flaps.

Step 19.

Turn the model over from right to left to have the penguin facing you.
