Step 1.
Take a square sheet, lay it flat on the table in a diamond position.
additional information
- The corners of the square are: top, right, bottom, and left.
Step 2.
Make a vertical valley fold by bringing the right corner over to the left corner.
Crease firmly, then unfold.
additional information
- Keep an eye on the crease at the top and bottom points.
- Before unfolding, you get a triangular shape, with a vertical hinge on the right that connects two triangular flaps whose tips are on the left.
- After unfolding, the vertical diagonal is marked by a valley fold.
Step 3.
Flip the paper from right to left.
additional information
- The side that was facing up is now against the table.
- The square is still in a diamond position.
- the vertical diagonal is a mountain fold (it forms a bump)
Step 4.
Make a horizontal valley fold by bringing the bottom corner toward the top corner.
Crease well, and leave it folded.
additional information
- the fold consists of two triangular flaps of the same size, single thickness, that overlap.
- these two flaps are connected by a horizontal hinge edge at the bottom.
Step 5.
Make an oblique valley fold by bringing the right edge of the front flap from right to left down along the hinge edge.
Crease well, then unfold.
Step 6.
Make an oblique valley fold by bringing the left edge of the front flap from left to right down along the hinge edge.
Crease well, then unfold.
Step 7.
Bring simultaneously from top to bottom the right and left edges of the front triangular flap toward the hinge edge, using the diagonal valley folds starting from the lower points.
The top tip turns into a point that you pinch to bring it to the vertical, as the two edges approach the hinge edge.
additional information
- When the two edges are aligned with the hinge edge, the point that has formed is pointing towards the ceiling.
- We have just made a rabbit ear fold.
Step 8.
Fold the rabbit ear to the left, against the model.
Step 9.
Turn the model over from right to left. Then repeat the steps described in steps 6, 7, and 8.
Step 10.
Fold the rabbit ear to the right, against the model.
Step 11.
Open the shape by folding the front flap downwards, around the horizontal hinge edge.
Rotate the shape a quarter turn counterclockwise, then flip the fold from right to left.
additional information
- You get a very elongated vertical diamond shape.
- The front side has, in the middle, two triangular flaps.
- This is the intermediate version of the fish base.
Step 12.
Flip the fold from right to left.
additional information
- The two middle triangular flaps are now underneath (table side).
Step 13.
Make a valley fold, bringing the top point down to the bottom point.
additional information
- You now have in your hands the final version of the fish base.
- It's a kite, equipped at the bottom with a long point made of two double-layer triangular flaps, stacked on top of each other, connected by an internal horizontal hinge fold.
- The upper part is a triangular shape built around two separate symmetrical triangles, divided by a vertical slit.
